Women's Business Boot CampRecently, several women in the La Crosse area were inspired to put together a Women’s Business Expo where women owned small businesses will gather and display their products or services for an afternoon. On March 22, 2012 there will be 40 vendors gathering at the beautiful Cargill Room on the waterfront to display their products and services.

Each vendor will have a drawing for a product or service valued at $25 or more and there will be women business owners speaking all day with health and wellness expert, Dr. Karen Wolfe as the Keynote Speaker speaking at lunch time and again at dinner time.

Admission is $5 with proceeds donated to the Coulee Region Women Veterans.

Are you ready for the mobile web?

by Catherine on June 16, 2011

mobile site
Mobile browsing statics and studies are crystal clear: mobile device browsing is here, and the use of mobile devices to access the Internet will continue to escalate in the future. Unfortunately, many current websites are not compatible with common mobile devices.

Current mobile design trends appear to indicate that mobile versions of websites are very basic to accommodate a variety of mobile devices so that websites render properly on a number of basic devices. It is conceivable to predict that this trend will evolve into more complex mobile design as newer smartphone and mobile devices are developed. With limited design budgets, many small businesses may take the practical approach to have mobile sites cater to current average mobile phone browser size resolutions.

What are the top priorities when considering a mobile website?

 The mobile version should be compatible with common mobile screen resolutions

 The mobile version of the website should render well (portray properly) on a number of common mobile browser sizes from a small browser that has the dimensions of 240 x 320 to the iPhone’s 480 x 320 and the Motorola Droid’s 480 x 854 screen resolution.

 The mobile version should have optimized content

 The mobile version’s images should be reduced to ensure that they load quickly and fit properly in the viewing screen of the most common devices.

 The mobile version should have user friendly navigation

 The mobile version’s navigation should be user friendly so that the viewer can navigate throughout the site easily.

 The mobile version’s design should have a simplistic but compelling design

Social media can offer so many benefits to your business. It can help you learn about and reach out to your customers, make your business website more visible and relevant to search engines, show that you’re keeping up with technological advances, and promote your business faster and further than ever before possible. Want to learn more and get started?
Here are my top five recommendations for making the most of social media to promote your business or products.

1. Find out what they’re saying about you. The first step is to find out what people are saying about your business online. Social media sites offer search functions that let you search for content related to your business or products. If you don’t see anything out there, or what you see isn’t what you want, you can do something about it.

2. Start a blog and post regularly. It’s easy to add a free blog to your business website. You can use your free blog to talk about what your business is doing, link to other blogs in the same or similar industries and even offer promotions via your blog. Visit WordPress.org to get started – it’s FREE.

3. Create a Facebook Fan Page. A Facebook Fan Page lets you share all kinds of information about your business with people who love business. It helps you find the people most interested in your business by letting them find you. You can also create cool banners and use opt-in forms to capture leads form all this traffic online.

4. Post photos and videos. Pictures and videos speak louder than words. Flickr and YouTube are good places to put videos and pictures of your product or service, as well as how-to videos and commercials. Use PixelPipe.com to go viral – you can upload a photo and broadcast to ALL your social networks at the click of a single button!

5. Leverage links and bookmarks. Social media sites are great because they let you link back to your business website. This increases the number and quality of links to your business website, which increases its credibility and relevance in the eyes of your human audience and automated search engines bots. Another way to leverage links is with social bookmarking sites like Digg and Delicious. Add a button to your web pages to let visitors bookmark them easily.

These are just a few of the ways you can leverage the power of these Social Media tools. I can help you to work social or digital media into your overall marketing strategy and utilize the internet for your business. Contact me and we’ll utilize social and digital media for your business immediately.

All the best,

Catherine
